Nokia Sleeping Screen Beta, and its awesome "Image Downsampling" feature

Nokia Beta Labs recently released an updated version of Sleeping Screen. Sleeping Screen uses low power AMOLED modes to display downsampled images on the stand-by Symbian 3 screensaver. When you receive a call, message, or a calendar reminder triggers, Sleeping Screen displays this info on the handset.

I'm not going to do a review on Sleeping Screen (because I think many of the more prominent bloggers have done that quite well already). Instead I'm responding to a request by @nokia and @nokiabetalabs to show fine examples of images converted by the program's Image Downsampling functionality.

This functionality was driven by the Beta Labs community through numerous Enhancement requests for "more screen saver images". It appears to me that the development team have included the tool they used to convert images to AMOLED-efficient images.

This is a HUGE feature that deserves a showcase, and I'm sure I'm not the only person out of the 50,000+ followers of this app that would like to thank the development team for including it.

I own a Nokia N8, and I decided to convert the high-quality sample images included when you purchase the handset. Some results work better than others, however some results are truly awesome. The original image appears first in each group, followed by the converted image.

Enjoy

Jared
