On Fango, and Channel 7's poor attempt to protect their advertising market share.

So those of you who watch Channel 7, and have an iDevice will probably be aware of the Fango app.

Channel 7 purports the app to be "The social way to watch TV". You see two spokespeople waving iDevices around while extolling the virtues about the service. Some of those features include participating in live voting and entering competitions.

All seems fine to the casual iDevice user on the surface, until you take a moment to think about the live voting aspect. If you use something like Windows Media Center, or TiVo, you won't be able to participate in the live voting aspect. Because, well, you won't be watching the show live. ;)

It's obvious to me that Fango is a hook introduced by Channel 7 to encourage you to watch TV shows live, and ensure you see advertising (whether passively or actively). Fango indirectly tries to encourage you to not torrent TV shows that have already screened months before on US television, all so you can participate in the Fango community.

I'm sorry, but those two things are not compelling enough reasons to watch Live TV. In fact there are very few reasons to want to do such a thing when technology allows you to record and watch a program when you want.

I'll be over here, jumping your advertising in 30 second hops Channel 7 (if I even bother to wait until you broadcast them). But, thanks anyhow.

Oh, and thanks for at least having the sense not to release Fango for Android. Android users are better off without it.
